I'm not sure what Steven knew, to be honest. He might have read the files (probably did) but there's reading, then there's knowing.. And it's easy to be brave when you don't know any different.
I read stories where's it's angst-mope-whine-angst-pain, and have to stop. Gallows humour is still humour, people! Gimme some in my bleak!fic please.. So yeah, I get it.
