A Life Most Ordinary
Author: sonofabiscuit77
Pairing: Sam/Dean (past het pairings)
Rating: NC17
Warnings: This is a non-hunting AU, with domestic!Winchesters, first-time!wincest, kids (one with a disability), single-dad!Dean, gay!Sam, UST & some unrequited-pining. Warnings for consensual incest, angst, some violent scenes & minor character deaths.
Summary: Sam and Dean Winchester are two ordinary brothers living ordinary, small-town lives. Okay, so maybe having a mother who was brutally murdered by one of America’s most notorious serial killers and a father who needs 6 different kinds of medication to get out of bed in the morning is not that ordinary, but the rest of their problems: relationship failures and job disappointments, too many bills and too much overtime, and Dean’s two kids, 9 year-old Jonah with his disturbing passion for the music of Lady Gaga and 6-year old Simon with his severe hearing loss, well they’re entirely ordinary... The only thing extraordinary about Sam and Dean is this: the story of how they fell in love and how they learned to cope in such an ordinary world with such an extraordinary love.
Note: I'm always leery of non-hunting AUs and only ever found one other that I liked, but I think this one works very well for it. The kids have distinct personalities, Sam is an Awesome Uncle and Dean is, as always, somewhat heartbreaking. Also deals with the whole, y'know, incest thing, and the ramifications it would have while also being parents.
A Question of Choice [sequel to An Issue of Consent ]
Author: varkelton
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC17
Warnings: Issues of rape, with a heavy emphasis on recovery and a decided lack of easy fixes. Dub-con. Graphic violence/gore. Established relationship. Major Hurt/Comfort and a teensy... tiny... bit of angst. ::cough::
Timeline: This story goes AU after the Season One episode, Dead Man’s Blood. Events are canon through this episode, but afterwards, multiple leads cause the boys to separate from John after all, and now nine months have passed. The events in Salvation and Devil’s Trap never happened.
Summary: Months after being stricken with an incubus-like curse, the boys are building an ever-strengthening partnership out of the wreckage of its intense sexual requirements. Now, the ongoing physical relationship the sex demon forced on them has become a comfort to them both, and Sam's even finding ways to use the power they generate to make them better hunters. Of course, Sam can't always control his powers, and he's still having flashbacks to the captivity and torture that started it all. Dean's going out of his mind trying to help, but his brother's not the easiest guy to read, and Sam is definitely not in a talking mood. How far are they willing to go to make things right again?
Note: I'm torn on rec'ing this, honestly. It's pretty much whumpfic and approaches some of the things about fandom that's always bothered me, but...there you go.
The Heavens Aligned Against Us (Sounds Like a Fair Fight)
Author: clex_monkie89
Pairing: Mary/John, Sam/Dean
Rating: NC17
Warnings: Minor character death and underage sex (15 or 16 at the youngest, no clear age stated), spoilers up to The Song Remains The Same.
Summary: After the deaths of her parents, Mary should have known her life with John Winchester wouldn't ever be normal, but even she would never have imagined that one day her sons would travel back from the future with dire warnings, and her husband would be possessed by an angel. Armed with the knowledge of the future, she and John do their best to prepare their sons for the war to come, but will their training be enough to defeat their destinies?
Note: This had me busting out laughing several times. The banter between Mary and John is priceless, and the wee!chesters made me both lol and coo. The last one or two chapters fall apart a little, but the beginning and middle are strong.
Bleed Out and Take Him In
Author: taelynhawker
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC17
Warnings: S2 AU, Spoilers for S1-5, Minor character death.
Summary: "The most important thing to know is that Dean doesn’t believe in destiny. He doesn’t believe in paths that are already chosen, or the preordained, or fate. He doesn’t believe that his own choices don't mean something. He doesn’t believe – can’t believe – that from the moment he was born everything in his life has been out of his hands." When John Winchester dies he burdens his oldest son with a dark truth and an impossible order to follow- watch out for his little brother and, if need be, kill him to keep him from turning evil. Dean's never disobeyed an order from his father but he won't kill his brother, he'd sooner kill himself. So when Sam's visions get worse and his powers start to grow they have to find another way of stopping them and the Yellow Eyed Demon's plans. A way that won't require one brother to kill another.
Note: A clever take on the first season and making things turn out so differently. I just really liked it.
The Touch of His Hand
Author: macbyrne
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC17
Warnings: Angst, mostly off-screen torture, more angst, hurt/comfort, underage Wincest (Sam is sixteen), violence
Summary: Sam is fourteen when his psychic ability manifests, in the form of powerful, uncontrollable visions that leave him incapacitated by pain. Fear of his father’s reaction to having a son with supernatural powers leaves him only one person to turn to: his brother Dean. As his feelings for Dean grow stronger and the visions take more out of him, both brothers will have to make decisions on what is important, and where you go when you have nowhere left to turn.
Note: Another alternate take on the first season. First of all, it has psychic!Sam, which goes a really long way with me. <3 Second, it has protective!Dean. A little schmoopy in parts.
The Sky's Gonna Break
Author: smallnstealthy + invaderwitch
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC17
Warnings: Character illness, character harm, (temporary) character death.
Summary: The end is near and things are bad. Monsters roam the streets like wild dogs, awaiting the call of their master. The Winchesters do what they can to help those struggling to survive, but when something powerful starts screwing with Dean, breaking him down piece by piece, the boys are forced into isolation. While Dean suffers, Sam searches for answers, desperate to keep his brother fighting as Dean has always done for him. The morning Dean wakes up with a pair of huge, beautiful wings attached to his back, everything changes. With Castiel missing, their only ally is an archangel they can't trust; their only hope is their faith in each other. It might be just enough to beat the devil.
Note: Interesting twists on some canon elements, and the ending wasn't at all what I expected. (In a good way.)
