yay quarter days
Feb. 5th, 2010 02:41 pmMy final research project for my Anthro of Religion class is a comparison of how Imbolc is celebrated in the modern day: the neo-pagan conception, the Irish Catholic equivalent of St Brighid's Day, and how the two are similar or dissimilar in their customs. Community Seed is a local pagan organization that caters to a wide variety of paths; I've celebrated a few Sabbats with them in the past and plan on attending their Imbolc ritual tomorrow. While living in Ireland, also, I realized just how important St Brighid's Day - nearly unheard of in America, so far as I know - was to the Irish Catholic.
My point is - is there anyone willing to give testimony about their own experiences or customs concerning Imbolc or St Brighid's Day? Testimony is always valuable and might point out something I would've otherwise missed. If you're willing, would you comment or PM or email me?
(I think it's also valuable to stress that I've been involved in both these traditions at one point or another and have been atheist for some years now, so I don't feel disposed towards favoring one over the other. It's my intent to be as objective as possible.)
