Selphie is a badass, and arguably the SeeD you should really worry about. When someone that cute and cheerful is also a killer-for-hire, you should take notice.
Suck at it how, if you don't mind my asking? I personally have to use game guides because RPGs are so reliant on storytelling; I tend to stop paying attention when characters are talking and so have no idea what I'm supposed to do next. Is it the same for you, or the gameplay itself...?
