Being still in FF7-fic mode, I asked my professor if we could discuss religion as it's portrayed in popular media--like in video games.  You know.  For example.  Maybe even relate it back to Heidegger's critique on Nietzsche.  And he totally dissed the shininess of video games.  *sad face*

Anyway, my point.  Some stuff about Eir's Tomorrow, as thought of by me and posted without dina's permission.  Just fyi.  And I think I managed to keep it largely spoiler-free, too.

So the whole thing started as a plotbunny involving Sasuke, Naruto, angst, death, and complicated entanglements of mind-fuckery and chakra and Naruto dreaming of Sasuke's memories.  Unfortunately, I don't care enough about the Naruto fandom to write an epic for it, so it got switched to Cloud and Sephiroth; and when I tentatively brought it up with   [personal profile] artimusdin, she essentially forced me to sit and collaborate on a 9+ page outline.  (I made the bullet points look like materia.  I was very proud of myself.)  I lurve her so hard.

1. The Planet
Why does everyone hate the Planet so much?  Nature itself is ruthlessly pragmatic, and the Planet's actions in the original timeline only hastened what was an inevitable end anyway.  Blame Jenova, if anyone.

2. Jenova
Someone brought up how easily and conveniently Jenova was destroyed.  This is true.  But considering the mind-fuckery (because I need my mind-fuckery, thankyouverymuch) that follows from it, I think it's worth it.  XD  But seriously.  I promise that we'll at least try and make up for this.

3. Cloud and Sephiroth
While writing I needed dina's assurance that, no, Cloud wasn't coming across as a pedophile.  Because necrophilia doesn't bother me in the least, but there's no way in hell I'm writing shota.  And no, while Cloud worshipped Sephiroth as an idol while he was a kid, there was no I WUV U ANGSTANGST.  That comes later.  Much later, after Much Shit Hits the Fan Several Times.

4. The whole Nordic thing
So   [personal profile] tir_synni  's tentacle!verse is one of my favorites, and she was lovely enough to give us permission to borrow a few of her ideas concerning Norse mythology.  The extent of the Nordic ties in FF7 is CRAZINESS.  Unlike Christian stuff, the Norse didn't have a good-versus-evil thing going on so much as an order-versus-chaos thing, and the Jotnar (uncivilized giants, sometimes translated as 'demons') were the closest thing I could find to a kid's idea of the bogeyman.

5. Cloud's rebirth
Another person brought up the metaphysical implications of the two Clouds (original and newborn).  Actually, this is one of the reasons dina and I sent Cloud back so far in time.  Given that I tend to act like...well, me, I can't write a story in which two souls occupy the same body without getting too obsessed about said metaphysics and forgetting to write the rest of the story.  (Obsessive-compulsive+phil undergrad=bad brain-breaky things.)  The Planet was using the time before Gast's death to essentially restructure Cloud the way it wanted, mostly by removing Jenova's taint, before having a physical carrier (i.e. Missus Strife) give him a real body again.

Hrm.  If I forgot something, poke me.  *twitches*  *goes to get more coffee*
