Next time I have the urge to post a rant to [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants , someone strap my hands down.  o.O  I thought I was just letting out some long-borne tension in, y'know, a rant forum, and instead ended up unleashing a shitstorm.

...Damn.

I need to learn to keep my mouth shut sometimes.

No kidding. I think at this point all I can do is sit back and boggle.

A professor mentioned to me one of her students writing an in-depth paper on fanfiction. I'm not sure what the stance was, but still. May I ask what yours was about specifically? Like, was it about mpreg in that one fic, or more general stuff?

That place is already full of wank anyway. I wouldn't worry to much.

I don't read to many M-pregs, or creature fic, for pretty much the same reason. For people who claim to like the man on man they sure do like to slap one character into the lady spot quick.

114 comments!! Shit storm indeed.

Your icon reminds me why I love the Batman ladies so much. Maybe it's just me, but it's not often someone points out THAT GUY TREATS YOU LIKE SHIT to another, rather than just treating it like a joke.

Members of rant communities are the kind of people who have strong opinions on issues and want to air those opinions. And you certainly picked your topic for strong opinions, lol. I'd be more surprised if you hadn't got a response like that, tbh.

Ah, the beauty of The Internet.

...You make so much sense that I want to smack myself for not thinking about the demographics of a rant forum. Even so, I'm glad I did tone down my original rant, because then it would've become an epic shitstorm of wanky doom.

And I thought I was an opinionated person. I need to stick with you people. *stomps over to your corner*

I went to see what the fuss was about, and honestly, having read EVERYTHING that you had said (and not just SKIM A LITTLE, RAGE OVER EVERYTHING I MIGHT NOT LIKE, AND REPEAT) , I didn't find anything to complain about.

I think the real reasons to complain would be what you pointed out: authors mangling a character past point of recognition and the entire disregard of dealing with the issues/ even making a half-assed attempt to present MPreg in a believable way. Hell, take "MPreg" out and you have my problem with most authors in general.

I understand that the appeal of MPreg is because of the want for two gay characters to have a child that is genetically theirs/ to have a character go through pregnancy/childbirth. Fine. If you really MUST define a family in that way, then please explain the whys and hows.

*shakes head* Maybe if I stick with you and Knowing Shadows some of your prudence might rub off.

If only people would put that kind of energy into something useful. Like. Curing AIDS. Or shutting the fuck up.

fanficrants has a long 'history' of what is informally deemed acceptable to rant about and what's not, and your rant was one of the unlucky rants that got called out on based on said 'history'.

This link explains why: http://community.livejournal.com/ffrantsrants/139151.html (although I think that OP was ranting more on the general attitude towards rants about mpreg than about your specific rant)

Oh and me commenting here is nothing personal against you, I recognized your name as the author of a Naruto fic I really liked and checked to see if it was really you! =D

Ha, nah, it sounds like she's gotten personal in her post. Oh well, I admit I made a damn stupid mistake. I have a tendency to let irritation run my mouth off, even IRL.

OMG. When I saw this I had to go over to fanficrants and read the shit storm.

I'm sorry, but that's hilarious. It's a place for ranting, and yet it's prone to so much drama. Maybe because it's for ranting it has so much drama? XD

I agree with you on mpreg though. For people claiming to like homosexuality, and homosexual situations, they sure do like making homosexual people conform to heterosexual stereotypes.

I've never understood or liked mpreg, and even if I enjoy a story, and it develops into mpreg, I can't keep reading it anymore. Usually because of the way the characters are treated and turned completely OOC, and "motherly."

I personally liked your rant. It was more sophisticated than 99% of the usual ones, and the dramu kept me entertained for a good ten minutes. XD

Maybe, but hey, this is why we have personal journals. I'll just stick to that in the future. :)

Sorry, I'm finding it funny that the first thing I post on your LJ is a response to a rant.

Shouldn't it have been praise for one of your absolutely amazing stories? Specifically, Eir's Tomorrow? Man, I need to show you way more love for being talented and original. <3

*spams you with love and adoration for your amazing ficness*

I think you made a good point. I have red and do read a few mpregs when they're good enough, but the idea in general does bother me. It is too often an excuse to make a yaoi pairing more like a hetero pairing. If all you want is to write endlessly about the damn baby and make the pregnancy and birth completely take the characters OOC, you might as well keep your hands off our yaoi and stick a female in there instead.

One of the reasons I like yaoi so much is because it DOESN'T result in kids. LOL

I'd read a fic about Sephiroth got pregnant with ZACK's; yes, Zack's baby... But the story is funny though! :3 The raven-haired Soldier getting chased down the hall by his "mate"... *ahem!* With a knife... Very sharp knife! Yikes! Must be having tantrums because he's pregnant? Oh well... I'd read a lot of these kinds of Mpreg fics until I can't even remember how many!

LOL, that sure was a rollercoaster ride. Yeah, ffrants isn't a pleasant place; there's even a ffrantsrants community. XD

It's just a highly emotional topic, I suppose. Personally, I find MPreg squicky and avoid it like the plague, but then I know that some people won't agree with my kinks either (I like some twincest fics and I've written some shota fics with boys as young as 13), so I suppose I'll just STFU.
