re: temptation

 Just a quick note...someone mentioned that Sephiroth should, if anything, be a seraph rather than a cherub.  I thought so too at first, considering seraphim were considered to have six wings and traditionally were the highest angelic order; but cherubim were originally beings of eyes and flames, called Angels of Terror that struck the fear of God into mortal hearts.  They were guardians but also the keepers of God's Word, as well as being the fiery chariots that drove the Holy Spirit.

Also, I read somewhere that Lucifer was postulated to have been a cherub rather than a higher seraph precisely because of the cherubic virtue of knowledge--and sin is derived from knowledge.  Mostly, I figured that with Sephiroth's whole 'fallen angel' thing, he's more a creature of 'too much knowledge' than the seraphic quality of 'virtue.'  (And really, Sephiroth sitting with the other seraphim doing nothing but singing Holy Holy Holy in praise of someone else?  Yeah right.  XD)  And it was a cherub that guarded the gates of Paradise.

(Technically, however, 'sephiroth' refers to entities above the angelic order itself; they're aspects of God, though I'm no Kabbalist and I don't have many details on that.  And really, there are so many ways to interpret something that doesn't exist that you could find textual evidence for just about any theory.)
